Tired Horses Theatre are formed from creatives across Scotland. United by a shared love of theatre and a passion for political drama, we hope to create theatre that inspires spectators into action.

  • Joseph Meardon

    ARTISTIC DIRECTOR He/ Him

    Joseph is an North-West Actor, Director and Playwright now based in Scotland. He studied Theatre Studies and Philosophy at The University of Glasgow, where he also Mastered in Feminist Philosophy.

    As a performer Joseph has treaded many boards, notably, Liverpool's Royal Court and Glasgow's Citizens Theatre. He has played numerous roles up and down the North-West, from Sweeney Todd, to Mercutio, to Cain in The Chester Mystery Plays.

    Joseph authored Tired Horses own Malion which debuted at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe.

  • Mikael Phillips

    ARTISTIC PRODUCER He/ They

    Mikael is a Playwright, Performer, Producer, and Facilitator based in Glasgow. They are the Creative Director of Under the Rug Theatre in Scotland. To date, Mikael has written five full-length plays which they are in the process of publishing.

    Mikael holds a BA(hons) in Philosophy and Theatre Studies, and an MLitt in Playwriting & Dramaturgy from the University of Glasgow.

    They have worked with the Old Vic and the Scottish Youth Theatre on artist development programmes where they created two new pieces of work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Saffron Jezewski

    ADMINISTRATOR She/ Her

    Saffron is an administrator for Tired Horses Theatre, and is currently based in Glasgow. She is a writer, backstage all-rounder, occasional actor and musician. 

    Having graduated from the University of Glasgow in the Summer, her most recent experience includes being the festival tech director for Student Theatre at Glasgow's (STAG's) New Works festival, sound design and operation for STAG's 2024 Fringe show Lads of the Flies along with being a technician for other Fringe shows at The Space and Underbelly venues, and writing and voice acting for Produced Moon's audio haunt Hexagone, which premiered in Platform Theatre, Glasgow, and is soon to reappear at the Granite Noir Festival in Aberdeen.

    Saffron has a particular interest in socio-political issues, and in incorporating tech and other backstage elements into the heart of shows.

  • Alex Paton

    PRODUCER She/ Her

    Alex is a Glasgow based Producer and Actor with a First Class honours degree in Acting from Edinburgh Napier University. Since graduating, both her Acting and Producing work has centred around new writing and uplifting the work of early-career theatre makers. She is particularly passionate about promoting feminist stories and sustainable Scottish theatre.
