Our mission and values

THEATRE INTO ACTION

Tired Horses Theatre was established with the aim to create and foster relevant, socially impactful, change making theatre. We are dedicated to creating bold new works and aiding rising artists in creating theirs.

We believe theatre has the power to make the world better and we aim to use its power to bring you fresh works that unsettle and inspire. Using the vehicle of theatre to have difficult conversations, encouraging our spectators to challenge the status quo, and create a better future.

Born out of the frustration with contemporary British politics and access to careers in the arts. Tired Horses Theatre also seeks to create a space where aspiring theatre artists can begin to take their career to the next level. Passionate about social justice, we want to lift up new voices and tell those stories that are too often neglected.

delivering NEW WORKS

Theatre offers us a great opportunity to critically analyse ourselves and the society in which we inhabit. It is a powerful tool and one we feel we have a responsibility to use as theatre makers.

Through our works we want to interrogate the society in which we live, questioning and reflecting on the systems and behaviours within. Raising social consciousness on important, unchanging, or neglected issues. All whilst delivering a fun, entertaining, and engaging theatrical experience.

We use theatre to inspire, entertain, and nurture positive social change.

HOPE NOT HATE

Hate, unfortunately, is a human characteristic that has remained throughout our short existence. It is often the route cause of our differences and antagonisms. Hate is societal wound that seeps only vulgarities and pain.

Tired Horses Theatre seek to explore hate, in all its forms, through its productions. We are particularly interested in exploring themes of feminism and fascism and their interaction with hate. Through displaying hate to our audiences, its bare appearance and its consequences, we hope to inspire reflection. Reflection that leads to action that leads to change.

We want to utilise hate to provide hope.

Past to present

Many of our societal afflictions and inequalities are as old as civilisation itself. Where there is humanity there is also greed, disgust, wrath, and hate.

But, there is also compassion, kindness, delight, and love. As part of our ethos, Tired Horses Theatre includes homages to the past. Acting as a reminder that in our small blip in the history of time , we still have a great deal to achieve and overcome.

Through our productions and events we hope to reach back to the past, to earlier civilisations, to find those moments that rhyme with the present ,and draw similarities with today. Reminding us of our continued struggle for love and peace.

Supporting Rising artists

Tired Horses Theatre provide a platform for rising artists to perform and test their new ideas. Through nurturing and supporting artists, and providing a safe and welcoming environment, we aim to foster an atmosphere that kickstarts creative journeys.

Through our The Agora scratch nights. We offer upcoming playwrights advice and support on their scripts and work with actors to stage it. We also offer actors aid in developing their craft through many performance opportunities. We aim to champion new writing and performers through producing new works and running skills based workshops.

Inclusion and equality

Tired Horses Theatre aims to create a space where everyone feels a sense of belonging, to ensure that we are collaborative, thoughtful, and inclusive. We are keen to offer opportunity to all artists no matter their background or status.

We seek to embody kindness and include actively, to create a place where anyone can belong. We check-in and make time for others, listening to learn and build equitable relationships based on empathy, trust and respect.

Through our work on stage, inclusive practices and our community projects, we hope to positively contribute to the wellbeing, health and happiness of all who engage with us — artists, audiences, and participants.
