THE AGORA

The term Agora is Greek for 'open place of assembly’. The Agora was where the community congregated to discuss events of the day; politics, religion, philosophy, and legal matters. It later designated the open-air marketplace of a city.

A political SCRATCH NIGHT

The Agora served the same purpose in ancient Athens as the town square and town hall in later societies. It was the centre of the athletic, artistic, business, social, spiritual, and political life in the city. The Athenian Agora is frequently referenced as the birthplace of democracy since it was here that political discussions and arguments gave rise to that concept.

It is that open spirit of discussion that we wish to encapsulate. A new platform for new ideas, channeling the ancient Greeks by using theatre as a vehicle for political and philosophical debate and conversation.

An evening of five short plays/ extracts that each seek to spotlight an issue around social justice. All from and performed by emerging creatives.

If you have something you want to say, join us at the Agora!

POLITICS AND POETICS

RAISING ARTISTS

Tired Horses Theatre are keen to offer opportunity to all artists no matter their background or status.

The Agora is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to bring a new story, discussion, or style to the stage. Whether it be a part of a larger project, an experimentation, or simply airing out an concept to a new audience.

We are committed to lifting up artists!

Tired Horses Theatre are dedicated to advancing issues of social justice. It is a sad reality that often issues around suffering and unfairness are neglected in our society.

The Agora serves as a place to explore social justice issues and make political commentary, in the hopes of igniting conversations and inspiring change. We seek works that are bold, daring, challenging and ready to inspire action!

PLAYWRIGHTS

Have a play or concept you want to test on a live audience? Are you seeking feedback from like-minded creatives to aid in the development of your project?

The Agora is an evening of five short works in progress/ extracts from upcoming playwrights keen to share and test their work around a political conversation. Each playwright will be provided with a cast by Tired Horses Theatre and assigned a 20 minute slot on the night to showcase their ideas.

After each performance there will be opportunity for feedback and discussion. The playwright has the opportunity to speak directly to their audience, in a forum manner, and engage in conversation about their text, their subject matter, and the success of their aims. Tired Horses also provide mediums for written feedback which the artist will receive to aid their project.
